The ongoing Streamsim/Stanford History Matching Joint Industry Project (HMJIP) has developed a methodology to obtain rapid history matches while maintaining geological consistency in the reservoir model. The success of the HMJIP has brought forward the opportunity of extending the project.
The main R&D components for the HMJIP-II extend the streamline-based, geologically consistent history matching approach to:
- Incorporation of pressure data for improved characterization of petrophysical properties
- Determination of multiple history matched models from large selection of geologic models
- Modification of fault transmissibilities and shale barriers for history matching
- History matching of dual media systems and regions of extremely high flow conductivity
- Use of seismic data to condition facies models
- Continuation of HMJIP Phase I research topics
- Software usability improvements
The main organizational approach of the HMJIP-II remains the same as for the ongoing HMJIP: fast-track R&D work into deployable, commercial grade, software through close collaboration with Stanford University. An industrial steering committee composed of one member from each supporting company will ensure that the project remains focused on goals spelled out at the launch meeting. The overall project will be coordinated and directed by Streamsim Technologies.
Funding levels shall remain the same at US$35,000/year/company, with an expected duration of the HMJIP-II of three years (2007-2010)
Companies that also participated in the first HMJIP will continue to receive 5 (five) installed licenses/company of the final commercial software.
Deliverables will also include research source code, reports, and project meetings. Sponsor companies that have provided real field test cases will receive specific reports on work performed on their test cases.
New companies joining the JIP must pay an entry fee of $25,000, and will receive two licenses of the final software.
Proposals for alternative arrangements to distinguish between sponsors of the first HMJIP and new sponsors are welcomed.
