History Matching Reservoir Flow Simulations

studioSL offers a unique simulation history matching solution to reservoir engineers and geoscientists with workflows ranging from screening, diagnosis, to assisted history matching.  In particular, our HM workflow is specifically designed for well-level matching by modifying grid-based properties at the inter-well level.  For million cell models with 100's of wells, this workflow is one of the few practical ways to manipulate grid-based properties.  With studioSL's link to geomodeling packages, grid property changes can be made in a geologically consistent manner, if desired.

Features

  • How can you know whether you can history match your model with a given workflow and parameterization?
  • Need to diagnose the quality of your history?
    • studioSL allows you to create bubble plots which help you visualize which wells are not matching.
    • Visualize streamline-derived information to link well behavior with reservoir model properties.
      • Injector/producer connections
      • Well drainage regions
  • Want to understand what parameters in your model have a high impact on the quality of the history match?
  • Need to do history matching quickly and robustly?
  • Having trouble history matching some wells in your waterflood?
Reservoir modeling workflows include:
  • Flow simulators such as 3DSL, Eclipse, PSim, and Powers,
  • Geomodeling software such as Petrel

Define parameters for flow simulation and geomodeling. Parameters can include

  • Continuous values
  • Discrete values (integers, include files, or string representations).

Efficient sampling procedures to construct your runs, from a single run to thousands.

  • Latin hypercube sampling
  • One-at-a-time (OAT) sampling

Assisted History Matching with Evolutionary Algorithms

studioSL allows reservoir engineers to apply advanced evolutionary algorithm methods for assisted history matching.  We have developed special methods to transition seamlessly from sampling, sensitivity analysis, and screening to history matching using probability-based differential evolution, Streamsim's variation of a Estimation of Distribution Algorithm

Features:

  • Modify parameters in your geomodeling package (Petrel) and flow simulator (Eclipse, 3DSL) simultaneously in a single optimization
  • History match on discrete and continuous parameters
  • Multiple history matched models
